Doing the exercises

• Random exercise
  • Press the button Show a random exercise.
  • The system finds an exercise at random in some story.
  • Fill in the missing words in the exercise and submit your answer by pressing the button Check.
  • The next exercise will show automatically.

• Going through the whole story
  • Press the button Show stories.
  • You get to see a list of stories.
  • By clicking the title of a story you can see an exercise that is based on the first paragraph of the story.
  • After you have submitted the answer, you get to see the next exercise (based on the next paragraph in the story).
  • You can read the whole story by answering all the exercises in the order.
  • If you want to see the exercises at a random order, check the box Continue in random order, and the next exercises will be still selected from the same story but in a random order.

• Answering the exercises
  • You can (usually) move forward with the Tab key and backwards with shift-Tab. If you press Enter in the last gap, the answer is submitted. Thus, it is not necessary to use mouse to do the exercises.
  • Fill in the missing words
    • Some gaps have a tip, which is baseform or part of the word that is the answer.
    • If you do not know what to answer, guess, or leave the gap empty.
  • Submit your answer by the button Check.
  • The old exercise is replaced by a new one. Below the exercise you can see the snippet for the previous exercise with your answer.
    • The correct answers are shown in blue.
    • An answer that differs from the original text is shown in grey, with the original word in blue next to it. Note, that your answers are compared to the original text only, and therefore, it is possible that your answer could actually be used in that context.

Monitoring your learning progress

• Color bar in the list of stories: in the right-hand side of each story, you can see a color bar that illustrates how much of the story you have already studied and how many right and wrong answers (relatively) you have given.
  • If the bar is grey, you have not answered any questions, yet.
  • The more color in the bar, the larger part of the story you have studied, at least once.
  • The more (and darker) blue there is, the better answers you have given.
  • The more (and brighter) red, the more there are still problematic cases, where you have given a wrong answer several times.
• Browsing a story (link Show in the list of stories)
  • In the list of stories, you can see a link Show (or Show/edit) on the right-hand side of each story title. If you click the link, you can see the text content of the story.
  • If you have answered some questions, some of the words are colored.
    • The darker blue a word is, the more often have you given that word as a correct answer.
    • The brighter red a word is, the more often have you given another word or word form at this point.
• 'My Progress'
  • In the upmost part of the page, you can see a link My Progress. If you click the link, you can see your progress as a picture.
  • You can see more of the picture, the more snippets you study and the more right answers you give.

Adding new stories

• Button Create a new story gives you an empty text field into which you can copy text by typing it yourself or using copy/paste from some other source.
  • Leave one empty line between snippets.
  • Small snippets are nicer for studying, so you may want to split the original snippets/paragraphs into smaller parts.
  • When you are ready, create a new story with a button Create.
• You can also add a new story by uploading a file (button Create a new story from a file)
  • The supported file types are MSWord (.doc, .docx), OpenDocument Text (.odt), .rtf, .pdf and plain text (text/plain, .txt)
  • When you have selected a file, create a new story with the button 'Upload'
• Tibidiscis library
  • In the upper right corner of the list of stories, you can find a link Upload a story form the Tibidiscis library
  • By clicking the link you can see a set of stories that you can upload for your use.

Modifying stories

• You can modify a story by clicking the link Show/edit in the list of stories.
  • You can remove a story by clicking Delete story
  • You can edit some basic information regarding the story by clicking Edit story details.
    • You can modify the title of the story, give some tags describing the story (like the source or topic of the story), and change the language of the story.
    • Confirm the changes (button Confirm)
    • Button Cancel lets you to cancel the changes.
• You can also modify snippets
  • You can modify and remove a snippet everywhere, where you can see the buttons Edit and Delete on the right-hand side of the snippet.
  • If you click Edit, you can modify the text content of the snippet and give descriptive tags for it.
  • If you modify a snippet that you have already studied, the snippet returns to the starting state, and the information of the right and wrong answers disappear.

Browsing the stories

• You can browse all the snippets of a language by clicking the button Browse all snippets.
• You can also search for all stories and snippets containing a word.
• If you added tags into the stories, you can also search using these tags.
